ALLEN ANG

President
Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC)

ABOUT

A dedicated sustainability leader with over 20 years of experience in green building applications and strategic project management, Mr. Allen Ang plays a pivotal role in advancing SGBC Founding Member City Developments Limited’s (CDL) sustainability and decarbonisation efforts.

In 2021, under Mr. Ang’s advocacy, CDL became Southeast Asia’s first real estate conglomerate and Singapore’s first developer to sign the World Green Building Council’s (WorldGBC) Net Zero Carbon Buildings Commitment. That same year, he aligned CDL’s carbon reduction targets with the 1.5°C scenario, validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). After CDL’s pledge to the expanded WorldGBC Commitment at COP26, he has driven the adoption of a whole life-cycle carbon reduction approach for CDL’s development and investment properties.

Mr. Ang’s expertise is reflected in CDL’s award-winning green building projects, earning CDL’s industry accolades like the inaugural BCA Green Mark Platinum Champion Award and the BCA Built Environment Leadership Platinum Award. Notable achievements include conceptualising Singapore’s first eco-mall, City Square Mall in 2007 and Singapore’s first zero-energy gallery building, the CDL Green Gallery at the Singapore Botanic Gardens in 2013.

Pushing the boundaries of innovation, Mr. Ang led CDL’s adoption of Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric Construction (PPVC) technology in the private sector in 2014 with The Brownstone, an Executive Condominium at Canberra Drive in Sembawang, making CDL the first private developer in Asia to implement this advanced construction method. His initiatives also placed Singapore on the world map, with CDL’s Tree House condominium securing a Guinness World Record for the world’s largest vertical garden in 2013.

Beyond his corporate role, Mr. Ang is a passionate advocate for sustainability and community engagement, serving as a District Councillor for the North West and South East Community Development Councils (CDCs). He co-chaired the North West CDC Green Committee, achieving multiple Clean & Green Singapore Best District Awards and the ASEAN Environmentally Sustainable City Award.

Mr. Ang has held national advisory roles, including serving on the WorldGBC Corporate Advisory Board (2013-2015), the Public Hygiene Council (2017-2023) and is currently a board committee member at the National Healthcare Group’s Infrastructure and Facilities Committee. For his contributions to the community and sustainability, he has received The Public Service Medal (2012), The Public Service Star Medal (2016), the inaugural BCA-SGBC Green Advocate Individual Award (2011), the MND Medallion Award in 2016 and 2017, the NParks Community-in-Bloom Ambassador Award (2012), as well as the National Environment Agency (NEA) EcoFriend Award (2018).
