ABOUT
Trained in architecture and urban design, Ms Fun Siew Leng is the Chief Urban Designer at the Urban Redevelopment Authority. She is responsible for the urban design for the Central Area as well as new growth areas like Jurong Lake District, Punggol Digital District and Woodlands North Coast.
She believes that while urban design is to give form and legibility to the city, equally important is its role in shaping the public realm to become attractive spaces to support economic, civic and community life. Urban design is about designing the city in context with its history, culture, climatic conditions and socio-economic aspirations. She believes that to future-proof our city, urban design must leverage new digital technology as well as be guided by a strong sense of purpose for the betterment of the city and its people.
Her work involves working in collaboration with partner agencies, the private sector and community to deliver impactful design outcomes. She sits on the Board of Architects and is a member of the Global Governing Trustees, Urban Land Institute.
Presenter – Greening the Urban Landscape: Strategies for a Sustainable Nation

Over the past 50 years, Singapore has transformed from a resource-scarce, rapidly urbanising nation into one of the world’s greenest cities.
The talk will trace Singapore’s urban green evolution through three key phases: Garden City, City in a Garden and City in Nature. It will outline the interconnected strategies at the level of the island, district and building that have transformed the city into a web of green spaces that work hard for the environment and community. Its greening strategy is part of the Singapore Green Plan 2030 to address climate change challenges. Using compelling examples, the talk will share how all the various levels of urban planning and design strategies come together to create new sustainable, resilient and liveable districts.
