Presenter – Making the Case for Adaptive Reuse: Singapore Land Tower
Track 1B: Reimagine, Retrofit, Renew | Thursday, 10 July 2025, 2:30 PM

Urban renewal in Singapore typically follows two paths: demolition and redevelopment, or undergo extensive asset enhancement initiative (AEI). While redevelopment offers a blank slate, AEI presents a smarter, greener alternative that preserves embodied carbon while modernising buildings for the future.

This presentation will explore the carbon advantage of AEI in avoiding over 50 percent of the embodied carbon emissions in this project and understand the balancing act of upgrading a 43-year-old tower while maintaining operations. It will also delve into innovative retrofits such as high-performance low-emissivity façade for tropical efficiency, cutting-edge M&E upgrades for energy savings as well as biophilic interventions.

IGBC-SG 2025 Delegates can sign up to attend the Site Tour to the Singapore Land Tower on 11 July 2025 for a more detailed look at the project.
